  Beyond the Inn

You may find your stay at Taughannock Farms Inn so peaceful and relaxing you never want to budge. But more than likely you’ll want take in some of the other attractions that are close by in the beautiful Finger Lakes.

Closest of all is Taughannock Falls State Park, once a part of the sprawling estate that included the Inn. The most spectacular part of the park is the falls itself. With a drop of 215 feet, it’s higher than Niagara Falls! There’s a trail that takes you right to the base of the falls along with plenty of other hiking paths to wander at will. The park also features facilities for year-round fun, including swimming, picnicking, fishing, boating, ice-skating and cross-country skiing.

This area is well-known for its waterfalls and gorges, and you may want to visit others, such as Buttermilk Falls State Park just outside Ithaca, or hike the long gorge at Watkins Glen. Cornell University and Ithaca College always have many cultural activities, and Cornell Plantations is a lovely place to visit and wander among the wide variety of exotic plants.

And of course, there are the wineries! More than 50 wineries dot the western shore of Cayuga Lake, and Taughannock Farms Inn is where it all begins. Most of the grape growers offer free wine tastings and have their products for sale. You can drive yourself, or go on a tour of the wineries by bus or even on a bicycle.
